Training
While living in the
mountains of western North Carolina, Mark received his First Degree training
in October 1999 and his Second Degree training in May 2000. In August 2000, while attending the Northwest
Reiki Gathering at Breitenbush Hot Springs in the Cascade Mountains of
Oregon, he made the decision to become a Reiki Master in the western
Reiki tradition that he was originally initiated into. In this
system, Third Degree and Master training are combined into one process.
Since making the decision to
become a Reiki Master, he has participated in the following:
-
Aikido workshop on
Pender Island, BC with Reiki Master Paul Mitchell (February 2001)
-
Reiki and Public
Practice workshops in Cataldo, Idaho sponsored by Office of Grand Master (July 2001 &
July 2002)
-
Gendai Reiki Ho Shihan
training in Vancouver, BC with Reiki Shihan Richard Rivard (February
2006)
-
Workshop in Vancouver,
BC on meditation techniques that Usui gave to his students.
Taught by Andy Bowling in May 2008.
-
Additional seminars,
retreats and workshops in Russia, United States and Canada.
On January 18, 2004, he was
attuned as a Reiki Master in Usui Ryoho Reiki by Patricia Pendergast.
Later, he was attuned as a Reiki Shihan in Gendai Reiki Ho by Richard
Rivard on February 24, 2006. The first attunement connects him to
the system of western Reiki through Sensei Usui's student, Chujiro
Hayashi, and Hayashi's student, Hawayo Takata. The second
attunement connects him to the system of traditional Reiki as it
continues to be practiced in Japan through the Usui Reiki Ryoho (URR) Gakkai.
This lineage is traced back to Usui through his student, Kan'ichi
Taketomi. This system of Gendai Reiki Ho was brought to the
western world by Hiroshi Doi and is designed to blend western and
traditional Reiki. Sensei Doi is currently a member of the URR
Gakkai in Japan.
Students are energetically connected to both the
traditional and the western systems of Reiki.
